I had a really fantastic year at AWS. Joined as an L6 PMT-ES. Wrote 2 PRFAQs from scratch and launched 2 big products (launched at re:Invent) and a few iterative features as well. I am now feeling that I won’t be able to grow more next year. Too early for promo to L7. This makes me want to look for roles outside and explore a different product path. What were you doing prior to joining as pmt es? Trying to get into amazon as pmt
Growing the product you launched is a skill set too. Learn that. It's hard in AWS with useless marketing teams
Eat your vegetables
I left Amazon before my L7 promo. Biggest regret. Stay there, get to L7, then look for another challenge if you want to. Grow your skillset in the meantime...
Why do you regret it? Do you think your exits would have been a lot better with L7?
It's easier to move to other companies with the principal title. Not impossible, but I wish I had stayed to my promo.
I’m a pmt-es too…launched new products and features. Learn to generate revenue next. Launching a product is only part of the story
Gauge the impact of your product launches and figure out how to make them successful if they’re not good. PMing is not just about “launch”.
It's all about impact.
Launch is a beginning .. the rubber hits the road a few months later when customers run production workloads and tell that everything yellow and shiny is not gold.
But what else could be yellow and shiny? 🤣 say it

1) grow the pie 2) make noise If you can’t do #1 or if #2 is ineffective then find a place where you can do both.
Grow the pie?
I love that quote/concept Did you just come up with that?
