I have done a lot of IT based work for my facility (oil & gas industry) even though I’m not IT. I created a custom software integration that uses data from one enterprise system to create logs (required by law) in the logging system (to reduce human logs, increase efficiency / accuracy, etc). I’ve also worked with a highly sophisticated data historian system to enable manual data entry, create analyses, and create alerts. I’ve been looking to transition to IT for a while and most everyone in corporate management know what I have done and are impressed. I have a call with our director of IT tomorrow, and though we have no current openings, I am going to express the interest I have in working in IT. My manager has a job he wants to create to have me do where I would be doing security for the industry + OT, but its not going to meet my goals. Do you guys have any suggestions? edit: in the Boston market, but looking to be working from home. Sysadmin, networking, AWS, DevOps, programming, and project management are all aspects I do on a junior to intermediate level.
Sorry didn't realize about the location, can you please update your post with details
The intent of the posts wasn’t aimed at referrals, but I’ve updated it.
Check out iiot, IOT, jobs at 3 major cloud providers, aspen tech (local to Boston), abb, GE, Honeywell, Splunk, Emerson, Rockwell etc.
Emerson is owned by NECI now (we deal with them). They do have a job I’d be good for, but despite having the direct experience, they don’t think it’s enough.
Then you are talking to little guys... the higher up roles you apply for, the little direct experience you need. Alternatively, get cloud certifications to expand into the brave new world of cloud. Industrial companies will need cloud professionals like you, who know both sides.
Are you open to heavy travel?
It would have to depend on how much home time I would have and what the TC / benefits would be.
Check out careers at splunk and let me know if you need a referral
Looks like the only openings for the northeast are sales, unfortunately. I see a limited selection for remote, and those were all sales as well.
