Workload is not much but the quality of tasks is just so bad that the majority of the time goes into overcoming the mental barrier and forcing myself to get to the point where I can get something done. And then most of the time product and other stakeholders don't know what they want and so I keep making changes to the same thing over and over. I have another job offer that I have accepted and can see the light now but I feel that the past year has simply sucked out my excitement for tech. I really hope this is just temporary. Have you guys faced this? And how do you deal with it #engineering #software #mentalhealth TC/Yoe : 160k/3+
I guess at least we get paid decent $$$ in tech. i’ve worked in non-tech before and it’s mind-numbingly boring and utterly pointless to the point of insulting human existence and pays absolute 🥜. I guess it’s better to cry in a brand new BMW than on an overcrowded subway. I feel you though, many ppl can relate.
I moved from tech to non tech and absolutely love it. Amazon has a brutal and toxic culture. Clearly the posts here by the various people can confirm the legitimacy of cry babies like me who can't handle it. But some people enjoy getting dry F%$&Ked in the butt, so they stay. They sent me this: We have been informed of your termination with Amazon effective XX/XX/XXXX Per the agreement set forth in your offer letter, you have a repayment obligation in the amount of $4,939.21 USD. We have attached/enclosed the repayment workbook for your reference. Note: Check should be made payable to Amazon Corporate LLC and sent to the address provided below. Please do not forget to mention your full name and employee ID (XXX) on the check. Please contact us, if you have any questions/concerns regarding your repayment obligation, by sending an email to the below email address. Alternatively, you may leave a message at the below phone number and a team member will return your call within 24 hours. Regards, Global Employee Receivables Management Amazon Corporate LLC P.O. I think amazon is an extreme example though, even for tech, don’t you think?
Congratulations! Happy to know that you exist. Do you mind sharing what kind of work do you do now? While I can understand from what other people have mentioned that its a compromise people make for money, I feel its too soon for me to give up on finding something that I actually mildly enjoy doing while still being okay financially.
This post n follow on comments from op sounds like myself
What a beautiful description in the first paragraph. Overcoming the mental barrier often takes more effort than the work itself. There is a no return point after a few years into Tech when you realize it sucks and from there you simply hold your breathe and keep on because of the money
Its frustrating because I have not yet perfected the art of being okay with doing other things when I'm supposed to be working and then just finishing the work at the end of the day within an hour or two. And so its a constant battle.
It’s DEF an art and skill. I have a good friend who is able to do this and she is enjoying life to the max while learning really cool shit. I have yet to acquire this magical skill tho.
