Love work but unsatisfied with level/comp

i just joined Microsoft few months ago after grad school from top 5 college. i love my work and have already earned good reputation across the board with impactful contributions. but i have very specialized skill sets in AI, am very passionate and hardworking but my comp and level is low tier. i feel like already interviewing. think i could net 100K more at Google/ FB based on Blind posts, not sure how blind-ly i should trust them. what should i do? in need of genuine advice thanks in advance! L59 TC: 109/20/70 YOE: 1 FT + 1 from 4 internships is my experience worthy of L60 and higher stock? i heard return interns get both also how competitive is my comp from an industry perspective? i have a huge student loan which makes it a big deal for me 😢 if there’s a way to get level & comp corrected without having to wait out a year, please suggest

Go to Google/FB

You think? You’re a fellow Microsoftie

I'm interviewing FAANG. MS stock refreshers are BS

What’s stopping you from interviewing and finding out?

Microsoft universale OP Dec 6, 2019

Interviewing is a lot of work! I’d be willing to do it if the upside was significant. You think someone with 2.5 YOE can get higher comp?

HBO g3m Dec 6, 2019

You’re young. You should get in the habit of interviewing regularly, so that the cost of preparing isn’t so high. (I wish I had done so.) Google and Facebook generally pay more than MS, so it’s possible.

You will probably get the entry level in other companies too, but you can potentially negotiate for better salary, probably 20-30k extra, not 100k.

What do you bring to the table to justify the extra $100K?

Microsoft universale OP Dec 6, 2019

For one, I do the job of an engineer, data scientist and a PM by myself. I have worked with principal level scientists and produced equivalent work so far

PhD?

Microsoft universale OP Dec 6, 2019

Incomplete. I left with an MS but plan to finish when I have paid of student loan

jump out, msft is not a good place for your early career

Microsoft universale OP Dec 6, 2019

Any specific reason?

It depends. Super stars can go from 59 to 65 within 6 years and all the way to the CVP in 10

Stay for a while. It is not easy to find a job that you like. You’ll always earn money later in your career. Money is not everything.

Dude you literally have 1 year of real experience. Sit down. Be humble.

Microsoft universale OP Dec 7, 2019

I am really good at what I do regardless of lack of experience

Amazon BMTHFTW Dec 7, 2019

Again, you literally have 1 year of experience. Stick your diploma up your ass, put your head down, and get to work. Deliver results consistently for a few years before getting butt hurt about your tc.

Microsoft iamletired Dec 7, 2019

Your offer and level is consistent with returning interns. If you enjoy your work, don't let blind poison you. People on here are mostly full of shit. You weren't lowballed.

Microsoft universale OP Dec 7, 2019

Thank you! But TBH I have known my peers with same YOE & less education get higher level and comp. It deeply troubles me that MS is not meritocratic

Amazon AWS-Engr Dec 7, 2019

No company is meritocratic. It's a game of good negotiating and being at the right place at the right time.

Remember money talks in this world, always chase for more money. Thats the lesson I learned. And always leetcode, always study. Make sure you are a strong competitor in the market at any given time.
