I received a 50% bonus cut and I’m down 5% total comp. performance was very strong according to the review. My manager said he is not responsabile for it and that my hiring manager is. He mentioned that it might be because my work authorisation expires in 10 months and HR did not identify a way to keep me working here, and so they might not have been incentivised to reward me as I should have had. Another colleague with visa issue had also a similar experience. Is this legal or is it discriminatory ?
The reasoning is rational. Why would they incentivize you if you’re gonna be gone soon?
It is. But i was wondering if this is legal given that it due to immigration status
He insinuated that someone did this, it’s hearsay even if it’s illegal. I don’t deal with immigrants so I don’t know if it’s legal
Bonus implies it is optional
There has also been a lower than normal increase in base

You would need to ask your attorney for a useful answer. More information is needed than what you’ve provided.

Unfortunately bonus is discretionary, so you cannot sue for that
