So...I usually don't think about companies outside of the Seattle area, but cost of living seems to be increasing here and I'm starting to open up to the idea of moving to the middle of nowhere lol and earn less but also pay less. I know Cerner is in the midwest. What other companies are low pay but low cost of living. What do you think about this idea? Is it better to just stay in Seattle?
Stay in Seattle, earn $, retire at 50 and move to the Midwest and live like a king
I’m currently enjoying high cost and high pay
I think about the same exact thing. Might find middle ground in Utah or Texas with cheap cost of living and it’s possible to get decent pay but worry about uprooting the whole family. Seattle has been destroyed these last few years, housing prices should continue to decrease though with all the excess inventory and rentals popping up. Not sure if it will fall enough in the desirable areas though.
I’m actually doing the other way around for a new opportunity. Same pay (250 TC) from Dallas to Seattle... but consider that paying a 700k mortgage is equal to paying a 1.1M mortgage in Seattle due to the very high property taxes and insurance (hail). All in all, yes Seattle is probably slightly more expensive, but its actually not by that much, especially where the parts where population is growing in Texas.
Oh interesting. How about commute? Is it getting worse with moving to Seattle?
Cerner is best join if you like snow n low pay
This is my house. Low COL and “Low” pay. Suck that west coasters.
The thing is Low COL, Low Pay vs High COL, High Pay is that you save proportionally and most of the times expensive commodities are priced equally across US. Consider affording a Tesla in 80 k gross pay in Midwest vs you earning 130k in Bay, because in Bay your income after ~40% tax would be ~80k in hand which is more than midwest gross income 🙄
