I applied to a director role at a pharma startup. Hiring manager said they want to bring me on board but as a senior manager. They want me to gain more experience for a few years prior to giving me the director title and pay. I asked about the job responsibilities and they said they are the same. Has anyone else had this happen to them? It doesn’t feel right to do the same exact job but get paid less. I’m kind of frustrated now…

Lol Director and Sr Manager - job responsibilities being same - red flag.

Tell them you will reject the offer but accept the pay. Tell them they are both the same. And these are the sort of folks talking about how they cannot find a right hire.

I find it fascinating that HM would say that to you. Seems like they don't understand that you don't downlevel someone at a startup to prove themselves.

      Run away from this company.
