How do you like the culture at Twitter?

Do you feel Twitter engineering is competitive? Especially in ML?

Also, do you feel safe in terms of job security in pandemic?

  • A few years ago, I had to implement a feature that needed integration with a 3rd party service. As the 3rd party service, we decided to support Google, Facebook, Microsoft, and Twitter. So, I had to learn and understand 4 different APIs that we’re basically doing the same thing.

Google‘s was the best designed API, Facebook and MS were a toss, and Twitter was the worst. By far.

I know this is one datapoint, but it made me think of where Twitter sets the quality bar.

  • I have just begun working at Twitter, and I find the culture better than what I had at Microsoft. Here you feel a part of bigger organization. You're more in connect with the customer and you're free to experiment with your ideas. The teams move faster compared to big companies and releases noticeable features in short time.

From job security perspective, I feel pretty secure. I had reservations earlier as well, but I have realized that the ceo Jack ensures that his vision and culture trickles down to individuals working at Twitter. There seems to be no threat of layoffs, but of course, I'm new here and can be wrong. Flexible working hours, adding more headcount during pandemic etc makes me feel secure about my job.
