Living in HCOL area. Current role is online sales with TC of 70k + commission (last year cleared 91k total).

Current role - 91k TC
Thursday thru Monday. Having weekdays off is great.
Speaking with customers. Awful. I hate it.
Job? Pretty frikkin easy. I don’t do much and make almost 100k.

Offered role (Marketing Specialist) - 100K TC
Monday thru Friday. Weekends off SUCK.
Not much of a bump in pay for the amount of responsibility I would take on. I’d have to work a lot harder.
Growth potential. In my current role I have none but this would put me in a better position to grow.

Advice? Obvious route is to ask for more.

  • If you hate talking with clients then yes, marketing is a natural pivot after sales

But for $9K more ask yourself if this is worth the increase in hours and stress

I’d probably apply to other marketing roles that fit the bill to earn more and leave sales

After years of being customer facing, I do hate it, especially in real estate when the market is as it is. For 9k it is not worth it considering the amount of work I’d have to do which I why I will counter with higher. Since they came to me with this position instead of the other way around I believe I have more power than usual.

The thing is, I applied for a ‘Marketing Manager’ role a couple of months back that they still have not filled and denied me for and this new ‘Marketing Specialist’ role would be 75% of the responsibilities that position called for and the posted salary for that position was 115k. It’s a fair offer in that context, but every other context not so much. HCOL (Seattle), more work, busier days off, etc.

      Thanks for your response!
