I couldn't get the laptop coding portion to spit out the right code. I got the approach right but a slight bug in the code. I felt super rushed. I wasted a lot of time setting up the stdin because I've never done it before. Am I basically rejected?
Haven’t done stdin? Not trying to be a dick, but isn’t that the step after hello world or am I missing something?
No I thought we'd consume the input in a text file. Wasnt really too clear to me.
I guess it’s a reject. I exactly had the same case as you, did well in design and behavioral rounds but made a silly mistake in coding round and got rejection email today
+1. Seriously, move on. The coding part is basically a deal breaker.
They didnt ask you to read from file ? What do you mean code from stdin?
I guess they changed the process earlier it was file but now they are asking to read from stdin. I wasted a lot of time on this as well
Mind sharing what was the issue with setting up stdin? Bad input format ? Isnt it standard problems like LC? Or different for laptop round?
The problem is not from LC. I guess the problem selection will depend on the team you are interviewing with. You need to code in such a way that it accepts input from stdin like a prompt which we never do in real life and this is where most of the time is spent
Mostly reject. Lyft is super competitive..there are likely others who nailed that important round. Sorry but still hope for the best though.
I wouldnt say that youre basically rejected. It would also depend on your overall approach, your way of talking with the interviewer, how small your bug was, etc. Just because it didnt spit out the exact answer doesnt mean you failed the round.
Curious why is this round designed different than white board coding ? What are they looking for, do you have to write the perfect code ? What's the complexity like of the problems ?
OP: update us when you hear back!
I felt like I had a less than flawless programming interview and I got an offer which is why I'm at Lyft now... Don't count yourself out, but also don't take it too hard if you are! Lots of great companies to work for right now
Pls name a few great companies.
Etoys, Myspace, hotornot.com...?
stop whining and start leetcoding more
You are rejected for sure
