I'm a new grad going through the interview/offer negotiation process with a few companies. I am aware of the exact new grad offers offered by all these companies. Can I just lie and tell them I have offers from the other companies and drop the numbers from my head to negotiate? I see nothing wrong with this if the companies dont ask for the actual paperwork. But even then I should have the right to respect the confidentiality of the other companies documentation. Share your stories if you ever tried this! Also fuck the ethical issues here. These are massive billion dollar corporations. We are disposable assets to them.
New grad, you are entering a world where based your attitude, ability, approach you can make it big, just have a good set of values, fuck lying, be honest work smart and you’ll do well, keep learning, you’ll grow and make a lot
This.
Just remember. The recruiting world is pretty small, and they talk. Recruiters move around companies, they have friends... and if they ask for paperwork that you won't give; well, that's already telling them enough. I wouldn't risk sullying your reputation for decades to come because you're negotiating with fake offers. It reflects very poorly on yourself as a person.
Being a new grad, don’t do it. You will negotiate peanuts with maximum risk exposure.
I think you guys might be out of touch with the new grad offers these days. Theres a huuuuge difference between say a google new grad and an amazon new grad. Im talking 50k plus a year. Thats a lot of money to be leaving for later in my career....
Really? Per year 50k? What would you say the new offers look like? What I know about normal package: Amazon - 103000 base 27k first year bonus 25k second year bonus 65k stocks (for 4 years) Google - 115k base 15k bonus for first year 15% target bonus each year 125 gsus(for 4 years) Msft - 107000 15k bonus for first year 10% target bonus each year 60k stocks ( for 3.5 years)
Msft is 120k stock bonus and 30k signing
"Also fuck the ethical issues here. These are massive billion dollar corporations. We are disposable assets to them." - I sense the cognitive dissonance is strong with this young one.
When I interned at Amazon it certainly felt like nobody wouldve been bothered if i had died the next day. Facebook will be fine without you should you choose to leave.
And by that reasoning, is it ok if I start exploiting the corporate credit card I have as long as I can get away with it? Billion dollar company that treats me as disposable right?
Just do it.. you'll have a metamorphical hole in your heart otherwise
Go ahead... lie. And they’ll call you’re bluff. And you’ll get nothing. Recruiters know people at the other large firms. People can check salaries and benchmarks.
Wouldn't risk it. They will figure you out.
Please just try it and let us know. Seems like you really want to do that

What happens if they refuse to match an imaginary offer?
You can still take a lower offer. "Culture fit" as an excuse is totally believable IMO
