A guy I know (was senior in MSFT) just joined goog but has lied about being a principal since last couple of years in MSFT in LinkedIn. Wondering if goog or other companies do bg check for US citizens or not. Also does this behavior help? Seems pretty unethical.
How does it matter to u? Did it interfere In ur day to day working?
If the other engineers with whom you are competing for a role are lying about their experience and are getting away with it due to the entire industry displaying the same culture of apathy and absence of due diligence that you appear to be suggesting, then you might feel a bit differently.
From the op post it felt they weren’t competing at all. The other person went to google and the op is still at msft.
Yup. Does not matter. Was just wondering if this is normal practice.
I feel u should not waste ur time thinking about just petty things. U don’t know why the other person has written it might be true might be false. Put ur time and energy in better things.
Good to know your time in energy is better spent on things other than integrity. OP, ignore this guy and bring it up with someone if you feel it’s appropriate. This is not a “petty thing”, this is lying about one’s position and implied responsibilities and experience. People with this attitude are why this entire industry can be such a shit-show sometimes.
Yeah, ignore and move on.
They don't verify LinkedIn, they verify your resume. If you lie on your resume you will get flagged in bg check.
One possible case is when he left MSFT, he got a counter offer as Principal.
Not the case.
I would report. People like this shouldn’t get away with it.
You don’t get to be world class by hiring and protecting corrupt, lying, third rate people. Only third rate people want to protect other corrupt third rate people and hope that they too can benefit from a circle jerk of incompetence.
^^^ agree All these people got fired or "resigned" for misrepresenting credentials. You either reward this behavior with a job and high pay or punish it in order to stop it. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.businessinsider.com/successful-executives-who-have-lied-on-their-resumes-2015-7
Op says on LinkedIn profile. Nothing about the persons resume is mentioned. Please read the original post. LinkedIn doesn’t completely guarantee a persons skill.
Medallia, I did read the original post. I also read your comments defending the person who misrepresented himself on LinkedIn. So you must think it is ok, while on a job search. Some people put an eye catcher headline, that can say anything. But Linkedin is commonly checked vs a resume. Anyone can lie on a resume because no one sees it. The fact that linkedin is publicly seen, including your previous peers, it is trusted more than your resume. People can call you out because you chose to post it publicly.
Snitches get stitches.
