Is Google really not building AI with Oil & Gas Companies?!

I'm curious to hear from Googlers if this is really true. Are you really not building AI solutions for Oil & Gas companies? https://www.cnbc.com/2020/05/20/google-ai-greenpeace-oil-gas.html

Wonderful, we have found the ways to support whole human population without a single drop of an oil & gas! Let’s ban it!

Petroleum Engineer here that transitioned to Data Science a couple of years ago. Its probably true for the time being but things change. Google didn't have much of a presence in the first place in O&G. The industry is mainly run by legacy applications that companies have used for decades. The industry in general is on the decline but if oil prices come back up and stay that way, the story might change.

It’s great to see another petroleum engineer like myself here:) @WaterBridge:):)
You are absolutely correct that many of the companies are still using legacy systems but in the past few years they are trying to change things.
The industry is very cyclical and this happens every 4-5 years. The last cycle was at the end of 2014 early 2015 and dragged a long time.
But the overnight drop this round was brutal not just for oil/gas but for overall economy as whole.
Oil/gas will be staying but not as strong as before as more sustainable sources are energy and electric cars take over.

Well I was told by my family members that Google will be building an office in Buffalo Heights for their Enterprise Team.
But oil/gas industry is on the down-cline. But besides the fuel in our cars there many other byproducts of petroleum but majority is fuel used by cars. So it won’t be going away any time soon but it will slow down drastically.
Here is the article on Google opening an office in Houston:
