I am a 1st-year analyst at an M&A boutique and curious what time others get to the office. I get here by 6:30ish since one of my seniors told me to "come in earlier than anyone and leave later than anyone" to get hired while I was in my internship. But then realizing that M&A doesn't really require to be early at the office and I am just drinking coffee for an hour till everyone gets here lol how is that for you guys?
If you don't want to burn out and actually have a long successful career then come in at your required time and leave once your work is done.
I disagree with this notion, I believe a long successful career in finance requires the individuals mindset
Reason people are leaving banking is because of the perceived notion that working 10-15 hours a day means you’re dedicated and hard working. When in reality you can get the job done in 8-10 hours. That’s why people (including myself) are increasingly looking at work life balance and trying to move to tech companies that value work life balance and flexibility in wfh. Not to mention pay is often better in tech/fintech.
investment banking actually requires the hours, its not like work is being assigned at 9am every morning
I agree. Even wishing things are assigned at a specific time in the morning lol that would help a lot in estimating my taking off time..
If you are already getting up that early, make sure you are getting exercise on a daily basis. That could be prime gym time for you. Doesn’t matter what you’re doing - classes, lifting, cardio - develop good healthy habits in your 20’s and they will serve you well in the future, trust me as an older guy. I usually get in between 8-9 AM.
Agreed. I usually go to the gym 6-7am and grab breakfast before getting to work at around 8am. Working out in the morning also primes you physically and mentally for the rest of the day, which is pretty important as banking requires you to sit for hours at a time.
Thanks for the great advice. Like I described I just spend the time with drinking coffee, watching Youtube kinda unproductively.. I will keep that in mind and look for a gym near me.
For me it really depends on the client. But I would say between 8-9 am. I dont think there is a point for you to get in 2h before every one.
Wait you guys leave the office?
Good one haha
