Is it worth to do an MBA after MS in computer science. I am an average coder, not very passionate about technology. I want to switch into management roles. Will MBA help me?
Just FYI, eMBAs are fairly widely seen as lightweight.
Management roles is too vague. What do you want to do/achieve?
I am interested in product management
So you can say that there's almost like a 50-50 split between roles that require an MBA and roles that do not. There are several roles that'll value your engineering background and will give you the job as long as you are able to show that you have business sense. Why don't you just try out a few PM roles without your MBA and see where you land? If you see that you aren't getting enough traction, then sign up for an MBA.
For the cost? I’m not sure it’s worth is. I graduated last year and my classmates who had prior masters got marginal raises and promotions. I’d only suggest it if you want to switch industries entirely.
That's what I am concerned about
Are you another desi who is trying to get into management or PM ? The industry already has enough people with no passion..
And don't believe the Indian myth of ms + mba will make you invincible, it won't unless you excude passion
Wow, so insightful
Im not a Dev, but I did an ms in stats, ms industrial engineering, then MBA. I believe the MBA has definitely helped me move away from a technical specialist and into more of a leadership role. Pm me if you want to chat
Education is always beneficial if you get into the top programs.
If you go for Mba .. only do it from a top 5 schools. If you are working for eBay (probably a tech-related field ) then don’t expect TC to bump up at all if not top school and trying to get C-level position. Do the TC research first before making a decision. If the degree is all you want, see if your company will pay (atleast partly) for an executive program which is faster.

Not necessarily. Depending on YoE, doing Executive MBA will help more especially if you don’t mind changing the industry
I don't mind changing the industry. I am concerned about the cost and the kind of job I will get afterwards
Executive MBAs are very costly
