Already working at a good company, but thinking of doing an MBA to make it to US. But my question is, is it really worth it? Say I did my MBA at University of San Francisco, how easy would it be to be hired back into top Tech companies? Ps. Internal Transfer seems to be not working...Hence trying to move to US via education.
MBA in general is shit expensive in US. And on top of that if not done from a top school won't give you any edge over others who are coming in market with MBA from say Warton or Kellogg. I dont think if worth the investment and risk.
Not always true. My MBA gets me in doors all the time, not from a top tier university. It’s fine, I learned everything I needed too. As long as it’s not from a 100% online program.......
He is not in US, this is the key. If you are American, you don’t need degree from good school because job market is friendly to people who don’t need work visa.
Definitely not worth it. Even your current employer won't hire you again if you don't do top 10 MBA. What credentials you got so far, and what level are you at? Blind might suggest alternatives. Are you an MBA PM at IDC?
I have a Stanford MBA and it was barely worth it
I got an in-state, top 15-20 MBA as did my spouse. We work for the 2 largest market cap companies in the world and make a shitload. So, yeah, worth every penny many times over.
May I ask which uni you and your wife went to?
I am guessing UW
I've been unimpressed by pretty much everyone I've met with an MBA. Enrollment in MBA programs is dropping. It feels like getting an MBA from a top program is more about the signal given by your getting accepted.
University does not matter. MBAs do not bring any critical value. I would recommend technical courses, Stats, Computer Science instead. Cheaper and very strong value. Regardless of the country you go work in it will help in the long term. MBAs are dime a dozen and are too expensive relative to the value they deliver.
I’ve been debating on getting an MBA. Most likely from just outside the top 10. I already work at Microsoft, so the only reason I would need an MBA is to transfer to a different company, or some sort of top level management. Other than that, it’s all about performance at this point
If you are looking for tpm or product manager role in tech - mba might not be worth it
I have MBA from H/S/W, I think it helps me to get first job in Amazon(AWS), but it’s my engineering background get me Product Manager roles. I think top MBA is useful for people with pure engineering background and help you to think things from a different perspective. Ping me if you have more questions. I have many friends from HSW doing different type of roles in big tech or startups so I can tell whether their MBA help or not. It really depends on your preMBA background.
