I’m around 2-3 years away from doing an MBA and was wondering if anyone had good tips to prepare for applications that aren’t commonly mentioned? Any good specific MBA programs that’ll allow me to stay in consulting or move to a similar professional/financial industry? People have told me that certain top schools feed into varying focus industries (like startups). There are a lot of good sources online but I’m looking more for personal tips from anyone’s experiences
I'm in the same boat and would love to follow this thread :)
Crush the GMAT since it factors so heavily into rankings. Schools will give you money based on your GMAT score. Also, schools care a lot about yield (number of offers accepted) so they want to have a good idea if you will accept. Did you visit the school in person? Multiple times? Did you personalize your application for the school? Have you spoken with alumni about post school options? Think of it like dating. Top consulting firms recruit at top 20 schools. Best advice is to go to school in area that you want to live after school since the brand and network are better. If you go to school in SF and want to be a banker in NYC you have to do a lot of legwork to go out for networking and recruiting. Just go to school in NYC. Not saying it can't be done, but when top firms come to school it will be the SF Team. NYC team is at NYC schools recruiting.
