Got a call from Verily for a SWE role. Currently Staff SWE in one of Linkedin’s data infra team. TC 480k.

Question: How is Verily for SWE roles? I heard that Sundar Pichai is going to trim down a lot of Alphabets bets which are not making much money. Verily could be a candidate.

Is it a good time to join Verily? Also is it possible to go to Google after a year or 2 without interviews if I am a good performer at Verily? Thanks.

The answer to your last question is no. A candidate has to interview when switching projects. Instead of six interviews, as per the policies today, you will likely have four and a lunch conversation with the HM. Your base salary will not change and you will get a new hire gsu package.

Oh I see. Thanks. So even if I have worked/collaborated very closely with google engineers for projects at Verily I still have to go through the formal interview processes is it? Thanks.

Verily is funded by external forces as well, 1 billion, I think sundar alone can't do much now

Got it. Makes total sense. However even GCP is given 3 years time to see how things work for the business. Given that if Verily does not bring any money then I am a bit skeptical
