MICROSOFT Product Manager interview

Hi Any insights on Microsoft way of interviewing Directors of product (marketing) managers? Technical? Brain teaser question or mostly sharing past experiences? I have never worked at MSFT and I have held senior product roles but I understand that MSFT product managers own marketing function and not product roadmap and I do not what to expect Also, is it possible to negotiate to a higher level after you get an offer? Thank you

If you've been a product manager working on product roadmap, you'll probably be a better fit for the program manager discipline.

Agreed. If it’s indeed a product marketing manager role, it won’t be technical at all.

Is it possible to jump 1-2 level if you’re overqualified for the role?

Brush up ur BS skills, that's what is required of Product marketing managers in Microsoft. Also make sure u don't display any product/technical/marketing skills in ur interview, that's always a plus. If they even get a hint u knw what u are talking abt, u can't be part of Product marketing in Microsoft

Not sure I should take this comment seriously. But it makes sense? I’ve seen great marketing leaders, how did they get in???

Majority of them are old timers who were part of building products from scratch. Their reportees and majority of middle management which took over in that role is really bad now. There were good ppl but they were in majority and most of them left. A good example is ppl running product marketing for Dynamics (Bag) , most of them can't even demo the product if there life was at stake.
