Fellow Indians, have anyone applied for GEP. What does the timeline look like? #travel
Get NEXUS instead. Cheaper and include all of others programs.
I did. The US side happens quickly. Mine was stuck in the pipeline in India. And it’s very difficult to know what is happening as there is no status page or so. I had to email the regional passport officer to push the file. Once they responded, it was smooth. It took around 6months - 1 year for the India side to respond.
May I ask when you applied for this. I referred this page https://passportindia.gov.in/AppOnlineProject/online/gepOnlineApp which has separate set of instructions for ppl who live outside of India. Do we still need to go through the background check process in India ?
Also can we get started with step 3: https://visa.vfsglobal.com/usa/en/ind/apply-for-gep while step 1 in ttp.dhs.gov is still in progress??
What are the benefits of this??
Yeah, mine took 9 months from start to finish. Worth it even if you are traveling few times a year and credit cards pay for it..

This was in 2019 and yes, had to visit passport service Kendra in India.
Why would you want to pay $100?
I checked the benefits and I feel it is definitely worth it
The website says - the Global entry eligibility criteria is to be a US or Canadian citizen or us permanent resident. Do you know if international say Indian passport holders can apply?
https://www.cbp.gov/travel/trusted-traveler-programs/global-entry/international-arrangements/global-entry-indian-citizens - Indians and people of some other countries are eligible. I originally had the same doubt.
I just applied for it yesterday. Didn’t know that there was Indian side approval needed for this. Nowhere in the process I was mentioned about it tho. Do we still need it? I was thinking that I need to go interview if I get a conditional approval. And that it would be done. I was wrong then.
If you have a GC or an American citizen you don’t need Indian side approval. Otherwise yes you need it.
I’m an Indian citizen. Just finished applying and have an appt at SF Consulate of India. If I get it right, it takes 6 months or whatever after this appointment at Consulate of india, correct?
OP, any update on this. I submitted my application in April 2023 and the police verification was done in May. My application status on VFS website shows that its at embassy/consulate for review. What happens after this? Do I need to go to passport office in India to verify my case? I havent done that.
What is this program intended for?
