Is there a tangible risk by having a 10 day overlap between jobs? My friend (works at LinkedIn) wants to go on PTO after their two weeks notice (manager approved) and start working for the new company (Meta) during the PTO. They are trying to secure one last vest with LinkedIn.
What can go (seriously) wrong with that approach?

You’ve left LinkedIn a financial incentive to do so. It depends how moral the com ay is though. Anyway update us after all all this is settled.
TBH the biggest risks are:
1) burning Bridges with LI (bad form to put in your 2 weeks and say that you’re taking 10 days of PTO)
2) LI just saying that they can leave immediately (thereby getting their PTO paid out but missing their vest)
It would be way better for them to just delay their start date by 10 days. If delay isn’t possible and both jobs are remote, it’s probably reasonable to just do both jobs if their LI role is not meeting heavy and get the vest + PTO payout
