If you are on a PIP, start looking for a new job. Chances are your job description will change or it has recently changed, in an effort to get new blood. If you are a tool, that’s one thing. If you’ve been there a long time, that’s another. It might just be time to say goodbye.
Seems like the ratio is 60 AMZN/FB to 1 MSFT. You really have to fuck up.
Where did u get this ratio?
Blind posts
I have heard it is really hard to fire someone at msft. Takes months, close to a year, managers really need to create a solid case, and pip will be part of it. Emphasis on the solid part. So I guess it is indeed rare. This is unless there is gross misconduct, apart from performance grounds, in which case, you can be fired anytime.
extremely rare
No PIP, but it is very difficult to fire. HR will play the devil's advocate and there is a blanket no firing policy close to stock vests or annual rewards because they don't want to give the impression they are firing you for short term cost savings.
Agree with others here. Microsoft PIP is for those who really really really stubborn to change and really fucked up.
in 90% of the cases pip is political... and an excuse to get rid of you. you don't get put on pip for low 'performance' (unless you really try and are working on average 2hrs per day or something and literally not getting anything done).
It might be political, but generally there is poor performance along with it. Politics decides which poor performers are let go
MSFT doesn't have a PIP process. Managers handle it internally.
False! There is indeed a PIP process
No. There isn't .
They give you zero bonus and stock and give you some time to quit
Depends on the team. My team was awful. I knew several who were managed out or threatened with being fired. Wlb was horrible. Many who left went to Amazon where they worked much less.
Which team?
I’m not going to specify but the team doesn’t exist anymore although the managers are still at Microsoft. It was expected that people routinely work on the weekends for months on end and the environment was just generally toxic.

Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?
Very uncommon actually, microsoft is really forgiving
This is so untrue
