MSFT Research Levelling different from MSFT?
From several blind posts it looks like MSFT Research is +2 levels adjusted from normal MSFT for same title. So for example, senior is L67 there as opposed to the usual L65. Are teams under the Artificial Intelligence and Research (AI+R) also part of MSFT Research and do they follow the same up leveling?
I'm a normal dev in AIR. We follow the standard leveling across the rest of the company. Don't know how MSR does it.
Senior is L63 at Microsoft. L65 is staff or principal.
MSR guys say entry-level is L63, Senior is L65, Principal L67. It's been mentioned a few times here on blind..
Yes, so for non-MSR microsoft, entry level is 59. 63 is senior. Entry levels at MSR are paid higher than entry level non-MSR as the latter is a bachelor degree graduate, the former is typically someone who can land a CS faculty position as their outside option. Entry level for fresh PhDs outside MSR is typically 61-62.
Wow. So much misinformation. Sr is l63/64, principal is 65/66/67. There is no staff at ms. Msr has the same levels for non-researcher positions. There are research sdes etc that follow the same. The title researcher is special. That starts at l63 (they may have different distinctions for sr/principal I dont know. they didnt when I worked there). Those roles generally require a PhD and are research (not development) roles. There are also lots of people that have phds in msr and the other product groups that are not researchers, but rather developers. Those follow the same rules as any other developer (although initial offers may be a bit higher and may offer l61/62 straight out of school).
