MSFT SWE or Meta Production Engineer?

Apr 30 13 Comments

Was given offer for SDE2 MSFT working in Azure and Meta E4 Production Engineer (no team matching yet).

Not sure which to choose.
MSFT has lower TC $190k and the team seems good
Meta has higher TC $255k, but I don't know if I want to go with PE because I'm not sure what to expect really. Also haven't matched with a team so idk what to expect there either.

Any insights?

MSFT, production engineer means pressure to work odd hours sometimes - also more stress in general

In that case go with Meta. You won’t be held responsible for fighting sev1 just because you are PE. It is shared responsibility

Go with MSFT if you are interested in software engineering

Are you interested in PE role? You won’t be designing and developing new software.. your responsibilities would revolve around ensuring current existing architecture performs operationally excellent (this does not mean you will be solving only ops tickets)

Production engineer goes way higher than that too, same pay band as SWE

That being said idk if Meta freezing swe has led to lowballs
