I am from Israel. I have been working at MSFT since last october. Prior to that I was at Cisco for 6 years. Recently, I cleared interview at Facebook. Location is Melno park, selected as Android Engineer. FB is offering me E4 level. At MSFT i am at 62. I am a patient of severe anxiety disorder since many years. I am on medication. Now, I am confused. Whether I should accept FB offer and move to US or shall I stay at MSFT . I am worried because in FB work pressure is very high and work life balance is very bad. I recently got married. I am not sure whether I will be able to handle the fast pace at FB. At MSFT work life balance is very good. My well wishers say that I will be able to survive in FB and going to FB will be the right decision. But I am not confident. Can someone suggest what shall I do?
Microsoft has a reputation that it’s a country club, FB has a reputation of Hire Fast Fire Fast. If a stressful work environment is going to be bad for your mental health, the choice seems easy.
Having worked at both, Microsoft is definitely an easier place to work with lower expectations. (Both companies can vary depending on the team/group but the overall shape of the curve is definitely lower at MS.)
Do you personally find fb stessful?
Just curious what mediation you use for Anxiety disorder. I might have some mild disorder as well.
Joining FB after getting married with anxiety disorder is a surefire way to a divorce. FB is very fast paced, very demanding. And they fire low performers pretty fast. So please dont destroy your career and marriage in one shot.
Is FB that stressful as people say ? It will helpful to hear it from facebook/ex-facebook employees
Congrats on the offer! Mazal Tov! I would suggest to stay at MSFT for now since you just got married. Spend more time with wife and settle down and then try for FB again. FB is a fast paced environment and expectations are very high.
I was suffering from anxiety for few months after head injury. My doctor forced me to leave meds and referred me to psychologist and acupuncture. Try exercising and mindfulness. These meds are very harmful and cripple the person. I can't answer whether u shud change or not but think about leaving medicine. May be I am wrong because I don't know ur specific case.
MSFT...if you don’t care that much about money. Enjoy your life!
