hi all, i was low balled when i joined MS @64 and cant find a way to move up. the advice i received was to join other compny for few years and come back for the growth. in last few months i joined Micrsoft research in AI- reinforcement team. TC: 180 base, up to 30% bonus, yoe: 14 Is this fair TC or too low? is it better to look outside to grow TC further? what kind of companies ll value AI-RL exp?
PM, Can’t negotiate internally, also they can’t change levels internally even thought the position I applied is at higher level.
MSR AI RL team has no PM afaik.
Base is good if comparing inside MS. Not too good if comparing with outside. How about RSUs?
RSU: 50k/ year
Airbnb can double you TC. I would encourage you to try outside.
Get out if MS while you can.
I'm a 62 designer making about that much as my TC just saying
This seems fair for an industrial research lab, counting RSUs. We’re similar in YOE and role. My TC is about 305. Not saying it’s great — I feel your frustration. But you’re not alone.
Smh. 300k tc + “not saying it’s great—I feel your frustration”. Can’t believe the world we live in. May each of you one day find a job and a tc that you are truly content with, though odds are that will not happen.
I’m actually quite content, especially compared to the academic salary I was receiving before joining a company. But under-leveling is tough when supporting a family and planning for retirement in the Bay Area.
