MTS level at VMware
Hi VMware folks, VMware is offering me MTS 3 position in cloud team. I have MS + 3 years of experience in the US and 2.5 years in my home country before Master’s(I don’t know non-US experience counts or not) Is MTS 3 down level for me or shall I ask them to consider me for higher level.
You won’t get Senior. If you do, you won’t succeed. Better to work towards a quick promo than to go in at higher expectation. But I don’t know you, you may be a superstar at coding.
How much experience does Sr MTS in VMware typically have ?
From what I've noticed, it ranges between 4-12 years. I also know someone who is into 20 years at Sr level. Prioritize what you want, pay, good work/cutting edge tech, level, good team/manager, WLB. IMHO it's very difficult to get all of them. No. of years of experience has no bearing on level. I know shitty engineers with lot of experience and extremely good ones who are juniors in VMware, in my team/BU. obviously over time, the better ones fare well.

What's your offer? BU And location? I don't think you'd get Sr. just yet. Non US experience does not typically count unless you've achieved something significant.
Which Business Unit is this?
Senior would be difficult at 3 years of experience unless you are really good. Just make sure you get a good TC
MTS3 for 5yrs experience is quite decent, especially if in Palo Alto. If you manage to excel, they will promote you in a year. Make sure you get a good relocation package, most packages are quite good as they are managed by an external company.
@joro75 getting promoted in a year is a joke. Some BUs have a two years minimum top even consider for a promo. Pay hikes can be good. RSUs too, but just not promo in a year. That's a hard nut to crack.
There is no 'minimums' it is best practice only. I moved between three BUs as management and had done this a few times for excelling employees.
