Resignation on furlough

Jun 23, 2020 14 Comments

Hi all,

I was furloughed or as they call it involuntary leave of absence. I got a new offer with Amazon in Finance and am wondering how would you resign? Put in a full 2 weeks? Just feels weird saying 2 weeks notice when I'm not working. I'm also getting medical through them and I dont want to have that end before my new position starts.

Surprised by the answers here. I don’t think any frame of notice should be expected if your on involuntary furlough, they’re not paying you a salary... I’d give 1 days of notice and move over, you have bills and/or a family to think about. Would still send over a positive letter of resignation.

Give them a week to sort out paperwork. Your benefits are good within the month you quit. E.g. if you give notice on July 2 you will have coverage through July 31.

  • Given that you are not working and most likely won't work in next few days, start the job and give notice the day you start working.

I see no reason why you can't give them 2 weeks since you are technically still an employee of the company since you get health benefit.

On a different note, what level at Amazon did you get, $112k (I am assuming is TC) sounds like L5. Sounds low with 9 YOE or is $112k the base?
