I have owned a MB (air) for few years and never really used it extensively outside of school as I did lot of dev on my main desktop PC. Recently got into some photo editing (PS Lightroom) and app development (XCode/iOS/Swift) along with light ML. My MacBook air is from 2013 (i7/8GB/256GB), but definitely noticing it throttle to 100% in day to day performance. (Esp with 10 + chrome tabs) so doing dev work on this is far fetched. (I was broke in school so got this on a budget) Fast forward, thinking to get a MacBook Pro (i9/32GB/1TB) and currently with education pricing, it's few 100s off along with free pair of Beats Studio 3, it's a tempting offer, but noticed that the current MBP hasn't been redesigned in 5 years (ish) and during the September Apple Launch event, I hear that they might be releasing a newly designed 16 inch MBP (with similar or same hardware config) just that the screen will be a bit bigger and better and maybe a keyboard fix. The only thing is that with the new MBP, I'd have to wait another 1-2 months before I can get it, there will not be the discount that's currently being offered and no free Beats either. Is it worth the wait? Will the extra 0.6 inch make a difference (as I know with coding on a laptop, the screen size can go a long way) - feel free to critique, share your opinions and why one may be better than the other. Edit: For those suggesting a dell/or some PC, I have a Windows workstation which is really powerful (and I can always remote into), but getting a MBP is important as it allows me to use Xcode to develop apps for Mac and iOS. The native experience of developing apps on Mac is irreplaceable for me personally. YOE: 2.5 Yr FT, 1.33 Yr Internships Level: L62 TC: 170 (going to change to 280 from next month) so I guess extra few 100s might not really matter...
Get a real laptop, like Dell or thinkpad.
Please. Mac is an amazing laptop. Does everything very efficiently except gaming
Larry, I have two words for you: Louis Rossmann
You can wait on 16 inch but based on trend so far, don’t expect much changes and as if like extra features at proportionate cost. Are you sure you want to carry 16 inch screen machine?
Speaking to a friend who worked on the Mac team at apple, the physical size of the laptop will still be the same as the 15.4 inch, but the extra 0.6 inch will come from replacing the current bezel space with screen space. (my friend refused to disclose more info due to obvious reasons hence the post)
That is good to know 👍
Wait for 16 inches and then buy this i9 when prices go down if the new ones are disappointing
I have Corei9 and the battery sucks! Never buy again.
use a macbook pro for work. fans loud AF crashes randomly power management sux, sleep will shutdown get Lenovo w/ linux
This except don’t get Lenovo
why? which u like oh yea the Mac keyboards still suck
If u are into multimedia editing ... It's worth to have that extra bit if screen
😏 'Will an extra .6 inches make a difference?'
Size does matter
I came here just to tell you I hate that you put “?!” In your title. Stop.
I'll change it just for you <3
Go for the i7 model. I have both core i9 and i7 models. The core i9 with 32 GB RAM gives maximum of 1.5 hours backup with normal usage. Stay away from it. If you really need power, get a desktop. Laptops must have 4 hour plus battery life. Don’t believe anyone saying MacBook pros are not good!
(I was broke in school so got this on a budget) LOL. I'm not broke right now and I still think macbooks are overpriced for what they offer.
It’s really hard to put a price on peace of mind! All my windows laptops suffer from the update problems and needs frequent disk cleanups. Windows is a virus in itself. Linux laptops still don’t have same level of compatibility and manufacturer support. These are great when things work but a b***h when they don’t. MacBook just works for 99% use cases.
I've had only windows laptops and I've never had a single problem. 100% happy, and for a fraction of the price. My latest one is a HP Envy 17" touch screen with i7, 16GB ram, 500GB disk space, nvidia graphics card.
Congrats on the 280 move! Where you headed to?
Stealth startup run by a guy who's worth $ 4 bil. That's as much of an info I can share. Sorry! So the 280 k comprises of paper money which can be traded for cash at certain intervals.
Does the start-up rhyme with kitchen?
