Ive joined one of minority channels in my company. a few days later ive received an email with job description shared ONLY in all the minority channels (women, blacks, etc). how can i prevent this type of discriminwtion against majority?
How is that discrimination? Also how do you know it's only being shard in that channel? For all you know, it's posted elsewhere and the person is sending that information out through those channels to give those minorities more visualization.
I agree. OP made assumptions.
Does that violate company policy or law anywhere? If so you might have something. Racism and sexism is everywhere, even among the people who’ve suffered from it.
Let's be honest, this happens in the reverse every day. In fact, it's been happening since this country was established. Opportunities have not been shared "equally" for quite some time. So before you express concerns about what appears to me as an effort to restore balance, look in the mirror. If you found out about a job opportunity who would you share it with first? I highly doubt that you would look through your contact list for that ONE minority candidate and share it with them first. And if you shared it generally instead via LinkedIn for example in the spirit of "giving everyone a fair chance", well there is a high chance that you're sharing it with a social network of professionals where more than 90% of them are not minorities anyway. So how does that restore balance? Maybe you have good intentions and want to see all parties involved treated fairly. Maybe that is why you joined the minority channel. Well actions speak louder than words. Joining a channel does not mean you care about these systemic issues. Have you ever signed up to represent your company at a job fair being held at a mainly non-white school? Have you ever mentored a minority professional or youth? That's what real action looks like.
Ah, this is the old argument about how it used to be unfair and unethical so if we just do the unfair and unethical thing in reverse it will fix everything. People sharing opportunities and information based on race and gender are scum no matter who they are. It was true decades ago and it’s true today.
Ah, yes that's why MLK did his March to Selma to repeal the 13th and make it legal to own white slaves and build a black owned slave plantation
Just find a minority you fit in. For American standards I’m a typical latino. In my country I’m a typical white guy. I moved from white oppressor to oppressed Latino, can’t really complain 🤷♂️
are you portuguese?
I don’t know about MSFT, but in all the companies that I worked for, an open job has to be posted on the company’s job site, which is an extension of its HR system. They don’t typically email it out, except for recruiters actively head hunting. However, nobody can stop people from forwarding the posting only to their friends. I can set up a search agent on my employer’s job site, one that emails me automatically whenever jobs that meet my criteria are posted. Sometimes I would forward certain jobs to my friends, but I never spam it to everybody in the company. Is this discrimination?
Yeah this 👆
Reshare the post elsewhere, obviously. Beyond that, quit complaining about content shared on a public channel open to all employees.
You should make it public and write an open letter to CEO, so they can't hide it or ignore it
We have it at Netflix all the time. Minorities have additional meeting trainings communications not available for others. It’s ok to discriminate against white and asian men though
