I am a manager at expedia, and I have applied for several manager positions at Amazon. What are my chances of getting up to senior manager in a few years at Amazon? I know that I could be a director at Expedia within three years or so based on my current experience. Could I make senior manager at Amazon in the same timeframe?
The bar went down quite a bit for Sr. Manager at Amazon last year. You don’t even need to manage any leads anymore. Though this didn’t use to be a hard criteria, it was assumed everywhere. Anyway, 3 years is pretty reasonable with the new and lower bar.
I’d wait the 3 yrs with Expedia and get the Director role and then jump. Currently a Mgr in Amazon myself. It will take years to get promoted from here.
There is something to be said for that. For folks who aren’t well versed in levels.fyi, Sr Manager sounds like Sr. SDE level. The Director title (even at a job that has the same responsibilities as an Amazon St. Manager) carries more weight in the industry.
How many people do u manage? How much business you manage. Typically directors at expedia get L6 at amazon. L7 at amazon manage 40-80 people. Directors manage anywhere from 150-300 people. They are responsible for strategic growth of business worth billion of dollars.
