Hi, I’m evaluating an offer from Home Depot for Manager, Data Science. TC: 155K, Base: 135K Bonus: 10% RSU: 6.5K The position is based in Atlanta, is this a fair offer? Does anyone know how much they usually pay for this position? YOE: 5
I received an offer from them with a 5k sign on. They told me to use that to pay for my own health insurance until the benefits kick in after 99 days. Fuck that.
Your education background? Seems low for a manager.
Bachelors in Computer Science and Masters in Information Management
Do you have hands on experience working on machine learning and experience managing scientists?
Experience with building predictive models ( mostly decision trees and logistic regression) and experience managing contractors (no direct reports), this position is located in marketing analytics building campaigns
Looks good for ATL pay scale
From my perspective I find it low. But if you think it is good, go for it. One problem I see is, if you need to hire senior IC, they will want TC higher than yours. Don’t know what is your take on it or HD’s policy.
Honestly, I was hoping to land base close to 150K + 20% bonus, however, considering I don’t have legit managerial experience I am thinking maybe this will be good start and can potentially open doors in future. I am fine if my team has an IC who earns more than me, if I can attract smart motivated/ experienced people who demand high compensation I see that as a win.
You are going to be a great manager. Not everyone has such a long term view.
Stop selling yourself short. Always ask for the moon and settle for a little lower.
It seems low but it's also Atlanta (low cost of living) and a step up for your career (only 1 year managing). Be careful - there may be a lot of I.C. contribution required in addition to managing folks.
It’s a good base for THD and it is a sh**show to negotiate base there. Push for more on RSU if you feel lucky. I’d also ask the talent acquisition person if there’s wiggle room in the base, they’re pretty transparent. But if you’re already at offer stage it might be a little late, assuming you have already talked about “what will it take”, unless you have competing offers.
Thank You!!! I unfortunately don't have any competing offers, they reached out to me on Linkedin and I decided to interview. I am going to push for 10K year on RSUs. Also, What they told me was this position will have contractors reporting right away, do you happen to any people with the same title who have direct reports? One of the things I am worried about is this really being more IC than managerial. How do you overall like working at THD? Are you in Engineering?
I like it overall, am in product management as an IC. Only issue is office politics. Some people have been there for decades and that is their first job, so there’s an expected entitlement present which works against external candidates but just be good at your job and whoever hired you will have your back. There are a lot of contractors...manager position I would expect you are actually managing. Mostly working your soft skills and delegating hard skills to contractors. One thing No One tells you though: M E E T I N G S 4/5 of your day is spent in them.
