Heard congress distributing wealth
Hey guys, I am new to the blind community and even new to the tech industry. I am the technical product manager (almost 2 YOE in the product) at a non-profit. Interesting work but very Iow pay and not challenging. That is why I have started to look for a new opportunity, especially in the tech industry. I recently finished an onsite for the Manager, Product Management role at Amazon 6 days ago but haven't received the final decision. Recruiter told me yesterday she was anticipating an update prior to the weekend but I doubt it. When I was interviewed by them, I got confused as they seemed to focus more on whether I have people management experience than the product skills. I do have direct reports but I assume my product skills should be more important. I am wondering if anyone knows what is the difference between product manager and manager, product management. Also, is it worth it to follow up with the recruiter after 5 business days? I am also invited to another onsite interview next week at GS but I am more attracted to the tech companies instead. Thanks in advance.
Manager, Product Management means you will be leading a team (directly or indirectly).
Is that normal at Amazon? I did some research and the typical career path for PM does not have Manager, Product Management. I do see a lot of Sr. Manager, Product Management though. I am guessing if this is a leading role then I might be simply applying to the wrong position as I want to focus on the product.
PM managers are usually experienced PMs who go on to lead a product line and a small team of other PMs. I've not seen them hired externally.
2 yoe. Only nonprofit experience. Amazon is giving you a people manager role?
I have 5 YOE in total with people management experience but only 2 YOE in product specific.
