Manager being rude to me. need advice

I’m in Oracle OCI and working here from an year. i see my manager is kind of rude to me multiple times. but he definetly seems like a good manager in general and seen him being good with other ppl in my team. what does this generally mean. i’m just being myself and i generally dont try to impress him but i’m sure doing better than other ppl in the team. Should i just move to another team or company ? or any other suggestions to get over it ? this really is pushing me down. TC: 210k, 5 yoe

Better to move to a different company. It’s not like OCI is paying you a ton right now.

If you have been there for a year, start leet coding. Then if you can switch companies, do that. If you can move teams, sure why not. If I were you, I would have an external offer and then try to switch, to not take any chances.

I have been upfront with my managers in the past, and in my experience it always end negatively in the way that you never know if this person can objectively evaluate your performance. You eventually end up leaving because that doubt lingers, and you decide to start over somewhere else.

I think your manager is not happy with your work performance; prolly it’s not bad enough to put you on PIP, so he is just hoping that you would move out on your own (I would take that rudeness as a hint). You should start interviewing before it’s too late.

One easy way to open up this question is to ask, “I want to check in and ask what you think of how I’m spending my time. Should I be spending my time on something other than what I’m currently doing?” It will invite him to share whatever he’s pissed about, if anything, but will not feel like an evaluative conversation to either. You’ll have your answer.

Sometimes managers will be biased and looks like in your case he doesn’t like you! I will suggest that you document all your work artifacts and keep conversations on email. Also, keep delivering results. If things don’t improve in next couple of months then move on to a new team or company!
