My manager in our 1:1 stated that being a PM at Microsoft makes your career effectively Microsoft only. Any PMs here leave MS and go somewhere else? How are you feeling about that move? Are the comparable positions outside of Amazon? Thank you for reading! Edit on compensation: I'm at 190k TC hearing folks discuss 250k TC at this level, but I know I'm high at MS for my years. Thanks for any advice you can give folks.
I'm definitely technical. I'm reviewing and writing deployed code at certain stages. I could switch to SDE, but would be personally happier staying a TPM.
I'm constantly burdened by being the only pm in the room with an understanding of what the hell our stuff actually does. I've had a hard time finding equivalent roles at FAANG outside of Amazon which made me concerned.
heard similar stuff, curious about what MS employees feel about this
That’s total BS. Started at MS as a PM. Left to a few different companies. Then started my own company. Sold it. Worked at parent company for a few years. And now I’m back as a PM.
A quick look at LinkedIn should answer your job mobility concerns.
Can you see people who used to be PM at Microsoft in some way?
Yea search for previous employer = Microsoft and current = google etc. I used to be a PM at Microsoft too :)
