Managers contact me one month after leaving company

So I left my previous company a month ago and now the incompetent managers reached out to me several times to help them get data for a report (!?) It triggers me because one of them sabotaged an agreed to promotion, the other talked to my reports behind my back and tried to get them to report to him. Also because what they're asking is super easy and I had a one month notice period where I transferred my work and they did not bother to ask any real questions. How do I deal with this? Currently I'm just ignoring them.

Make it worth your while: respond and say you’re willing to consult for them at some dollar rate. Pick a number that will make you feel good.

There is no way they would pay me. Even if they wanted to personally, it wouldn't get past Finance and they'd look stupid to the company for filing such a request.

Then they’ve got their answer

VMware iXny84 Oct 24, 2019

Set a ludicrous rate, work the problem, then invoice the company.

They think that I should help them because we're "friends", which we're not after they fucked me so massively. They won't pay. Honestly, just want to hear some blinders echo how these people are massive idiots for not being able to do their work/taking responsibility for knowledge transfer when they have a month of time for it.

Work on retainer then. Money up front.

You can probably give a polite answer that you’d like to but not sure if it would violate your current employment contract. Plus you don’t want to access data of a company you don’t work for. Maybe point to someone or some document that can assist.

Cisco Be_happy Oct 24, 2019

You do not owe any explanation.

IBM jvsd62 Oct 24, 2019

You don’t, but you don’t lose anything by being polite and not burning bridges. Plus, putting myself in their shoes, they’d be more frustrated because you’re being so reasonable that they can’t even blame you. This feels like the best option whether you want to be actually polite or frustrate them. It’s kind of self inflicted frustration on their end

just ask for a big check for the work as a consultant

Guess it pay back time. Let them suffer and don't bother when they didn't bother. Just relax and enjoy your time!

Why? So they know it's OK to step on me? That they're more important than I am?

Pivotal yeezytaugh Oct 24, 2019

I disagree with this. Toxic people will continue sucking the life out of you as long as you let them. Don't let them or tolerate this.

Amazon BattleStar Oct 24, 2019

If it’s easy for you, help them. Not burning bridges goes a long way. But if it is distracting for you, politely let them know that you can’t help because of your situation.

VMware doof_s Oct 24, 2019

Not in this case. The bridges were already burnt according to OP (from other side)
