Managers in facebook lie about lines of code thing ?

I think that my manager is very much biased towards software engineers who write loads of lines of code but says we don't count it But when doing psc says the amount of code written is less and tells stories of other developers writing tens of thousands lines What the fuck is wrong with managers here ? Sometimes they say lines of code doesn't matter and make you write so many quips and lead team and at psc time start looking at lines of code Not that my amount of code is less but writing quips posts and helping team also takes time, and I unlike managers who leave office at 6 don't have plenty of that

TC?

I don't think managers like to admit LOC matters, lest you try to game it. But even at G I've seen this cited for Perf so obviously it is looked at. It isn't everything but don't neglect it, I'd say.

At G I've heard it's done for folks not performing.. higher LoC probably doesn't imply higher rating.

That's still not a good use for the metric. Underachievers will just write a bunch of new useless java and have huge LoC. On its own LoC is meaningless beyond maybe a smoke test or warning sign for other real issues. Imo if a manager brings LoC up to their direct reports they're failing at their job.

Lines of code? I've sat through 8 hours of calibrations and haven't heard that metric come up once. Diffs and code reviews have come up. It's always part of the story though and not the thing that has the most impact on a rating. That said, it's a big company and YMMV.

LoC shouldn’t be a metric during review. Clueless managers.

managers are inconsistent and bend/frame things to benefit themselves, what else is now.

That is true.
