TLDR: I am writing here to share that notwithstanding grave circumstances, I am doing great. This success is because I persisted in finding a great coach/therapist; it’s not easy, it’s like finding just the right tailor for you. Please invest time in finding a coach/ building a strong base, finding your value systems, and you can tackle any situation. ———— Hello, I got fired on Friday. I left office early for a women’s health check when I got a call saying it was my last day. I had been at this place for 2 years and although the team saw more churn than I had at any other place (I had 4 managers in 2 years and a long spell of no manager), I had laughed a lot and formed some great friendships, that I hope will last for a long time. The firing could not have happened at a worse time; my visa expired and I am waiting for visa extension based on time spent outside US during the 6 years. Few days ago I learned my PERM was selected for audit. A few days prior there was a miscarriage in the family. I am recovering from surgery from a couple of months ago. I am dealing with a failed marriage. Things are also not great on the professional end - I am a consultant that is waiting for I-140 to switch employers. I did not ever think I could be such a “big person” but I’ve been successful in building myself, recent circumstances prove that I have. I am so chuffed about it! The most recent is that I feel zero resentment for my boss, forget stronger emotions like anger or hatred. On the contrary I feel so much compassion for him. I am quite stunned to feel this way. I’ll write more in a separate post. The last time I wrote a long post I got tons of flak from Blind and trying to avoid it :)
All the best ... Keep up with the positive attitude
I don’t have much to say except good luck! Hope you get out of this temporary setback soon.
You're a strong women and major respect to you. PM me if you find any roles interesting at F5. I would be happy to refer you.
That is very kind of you. I cannot change employers/apply full time until PERM gets approved and I-140 filed in premium. This is at least 4-5 months away.
I see and you're welcome. If you're fired, how does your PERM and I140 work? Aren't they rescinded? I'm unware of such a situation. I thought your H1B gets revoked and you lose your PERM/I140?
You will emerge stronger. Keep going.
Thank you all for the kind messages. I am guessing my H1b employer will not revoke my visa when I inform them on Monday. Likely they will give me a couple of weeks to find a new assignment. I am pretty confident of nailing a gig in this time frame.
This is temporary. I’m aware of the distress this may have on you, but it is temporary. And once it is over, you will be stronger (and you will / should get your permanent visa or green card later.) DM me for LinkedIn. Life is short, work at better companies.
Yes absolutely, this is temporary. Keep your wits about you and you’ll do just fine. I’m just surprised I realize this so soon after the unexpected news. Thank you for the kind offer. Currently I am unable to change employers.
First step is to let your thoughts out. Congrats on doing this by writing here. I hope you will get job soon. Just think about this situation with your 80yrs of life. It is a very small turn of events and it will pass and have none impact on your long career.
PM me, my team is hiring at NYC
Best of luck. Maybe too late now but as a back up it is always good to prepare for Canada visa especially with unreliable h1 visa these days

What’s your current work situation right now?
The firing happened on Friday. Job search starts tomorrow. The success is about being graceful and courageous dealing with situations life throws at you.
Good luck! Wish you find something soon to keep your Visa status.
