My manager and a couple of my teammates teamed up and bullied me incessantly at Amazon (one may not bully another person without reason, I may have done something stupid, but I truly don't know of any time I've gone against someone). Examples of bullying include making indirect comments on me, declaring I'm the worst performer out loud insultingly (when I've been diligent, disciplined and hard-working), constantly blaming me openly for small issues, calling me crazy, etc. The bullying was so ruthless and difficult that it put me into a very bad mental health condition -- I was too terrified of going to work each day. I had lost confidence not just in my skill and my communication abilities but my ability to even be able to lead a simple decent life. I went on a disability leave, and I don't think I'll be able to face them again. I don't have the will to fight this with an HR case or sue them or anything. But would love to hear suggestions about how I can handle this. Has anyone faced this (especially at Amazon) or am I just unlucky? How did you navigate this if you've faced this? I'm scared of working even at another place right now. How is the general culture like in other big companies like Google, Microsoft or Facebook? Any similar experiences from these companies? UPDATE: I was put on dev list before my leave. My manager cancelled on most of my 1:1s and suddenly one day said I need coaching (I confirmed that this meant dev list and low rating) I'm a new grad and this happened in the span of the first 6 months. I was awarded as the best performer during a previous internship elsewhere.
Have you tried talking to your manager in 1 on 1? Likely she does not even know the effect she is having on you
I am surprised it gets to this level at Amazon. First of all, commenting publicly on individuals bad performance should be against company policy. If I had manager reporting to me doing that I would fire him/her. Also, What do the managers do with the regular 1:1s. Sit on it until too late ?, or is it possible that managers at amazon do not have enuf power on their own and are dictated by their managers to find an ugly ducking and beat it out to death. Sounds awful.
i have never seen anything like this in my 10+ years at Amazon so it’s definitely not representative. Employees have freedom to move teams at any point (until dev listed) so toxic teams die quickly.
This is enraging. Get counseling and sue him/her. I’m surprised how much immaturity exists in workplace still.
Cannot sue the individual. Company would be forced to defend. Has to sue the company. Assuming the individual has the stamina to go through it. Sometimes not worth it unless of course it is millions of dollars. Might be a significant distraction unless there is nothing to lose.
Why would you want another big company? That's probably the last thing you need. The bigger the company the more stress and higher expectations. Right now you need to find an environment that gives you minimum stress so you can recover and build up your confidence. Look for smaller places, like a young company, with like minded people to join. Don't stay in that toxic Bezos environment. If the toxicity in that environment won't change, you can find another and better environment.
Not true. Mature companies provide more stability and have more employee resources. Startups or smaller companies ask much more of their employees.
It is too toxic and affecting your overall physical and mental health. Don’t fight, you will lose. Your best bet is to leave
Leave and work on your performance and emotion stability . Take a vacation before your next job
Get out of there ASAP. The exact same thing happened to a friend and he had to seek counseling for the next year.
My PM is from Amazon and shes the biggest biatch I know. Imagining a team of them...

What do you think when you see 3yoe staff engineer
Every team is different regardless the company. You can find another team before you're put on a dev list.
If the manager is openly calling him the worst performer, there are very high chances of him already being in the dev list.
