Alright guys, I'm back. I had asked about Mandarin classes two months back, thank you for your responses, I found a teacher in South Bay that week. I realize I'm able to speak simple sentences (vocabulary of about 200 words), but I find it really hard to understand when Chinese people speak. I have to ask them to slow down and repeat a few times, even if they're using words I've known a long time. Tried watching YouTube videos but they're way too complex (and fast) and don't have useable subtitles. So: where do I find audio/video of simple Mandarin preferably with English subtitles/translation ? (Context: Foreign person trying to learn Chinese for family business reasons)
Slowing down the YouTube videos (0.5x) doesn’t help?
No, that doesn't work because the tones are lost when you slow the video. Are you chinese? Is there any way I can find videos where they're already speaking slowly? (Like say, teaching stories to children)
Just like how we learn English as our second language. I would not recommend u to view video with English subtitle. If you have enough vocabulary you should start to look at slow video with Chinese subtitle. It changes the way u think and use Chinese as a language instead of try to process the information in English and then translate.
Why don’t you look at videos on youku for kids
TIL about YouKu, will check it out.
