Hi, I am posting for a friend. He cleared Microsoft interviews about 3 weeks back for one of the Azure teams. Location is Redmond, WA. He will join in 2019 as a new grad. Following are the numbers given to him: Base: $108k Stock: $115k over 3.5 yrs Joining+relocation: $20k Previous to grad school, he has a rich work experience of 2 yrs at a startup in India. Is he being low-balled? How much is the scope for negotiation, esp base? Edit: Can he join at level 61 as a new grad with experience and details as mentioned in the initial post?
Better than the offer I got, and I came in at 60 though that was years ago
It's a good offer
Is this masters or bachelors new grad?
It is masters degree. Updated the post to reflect that.
College offers are not negotiable in base. They can ask for more stock or SB but that comes out of the hiring teams budget. The recruiter will need to be prepared to make a case to the hiring team on the unique or special skills this candidate can bring over another candidate. Don’t be fooled. The recruiter has no say... this is all up to the hiring team. Note ,college hire stock does vest at 3.5 years which is slightly faster than an experienced candidate.
Can he join at level 61 as a new grad with experience and details as mentioned in the initial post?
Unlikely unless he utterly destroyed the interview. 60 is possible though
My friends from school got that same offer, but graduated with Bachelor’s.
What's the level being offered? All the components can be negotiated based on your explanation of the candidate.
The level was not told to her.

Base will be same, no point of negotiating unless they are willing to give for 60, instead of 59. There is room for negotiation in stocks and cash bonus, but this looks like pretty good offer to me, better than the standard ones for new grads. Looks like he had pretty good interview
