Hi,

I am working at a tier 3 and considering moving to reputable tier 2 company. I am non cs and wanna move to tier 2 company.

I don’t think I can make into FAANG, so what other companies are better other than tier 1. Is it easier to switch to FG from Microsoft? Is it worth having Microsoft on resume ?

Thanks

lol @ tiers. Stop fucking talking about tiers. ESPECIALLY if you aren’t even a dev.

Microsoft is a solid tier 2, but definitely tier 2. Recruiter messages were nonexistent when I worked at MS compared to other places I’ve worked.

    • I think that calling Microsoft tier two is ridiculous. Especially if you consider FANG tier one. Yeah, the pay is not as great and there's no free food in all offices, but the breadth of opportunities is incredible, pick any domain that interests you, MS probably has a team working on it. And, I got a ton of recruiter messages while at Microsoft

Getting to A shouldn’t be any harder than M.

    • I'm talking about vibe from the company overall, the people I met there during and outside the interviews, some of the managers etc. I've never interviewed at fb only google and Amazon. The hiring bar may be more consistent at Google, although the anecdotal evidence presented isn't terribly convincing, but that doesn't mean that it's more difficult to get into google in general. I dont really know. I do know several people, some of which have failed MS interviews (including myself) that have gotten into google on the first try.

Either way though this tier stuff is crap, as you say. You should go with the team that gives you the best overall experience according to the criteria important to you.

  • Get a Microsoft offer first before you worry if it's worth having it on your resume. Maybe Microsoft will determine you aren't worth having on its payroll.

  • People who think tiers are important are the same people who are forever in the college mindset. You need to grow the fuck up and see if you are learning and growing as a professional and as a person. All this shit about tiering is pretty pointless if you just move from company to company doing the same shit over and over and 20 years later you find yourself bitter and unhappy, “but I worked at Facebook and Amazon!!! Why am I so unhappy and lonely?!?!?”
