Is it cheaper to eat chipotle everyday than buy groceries ?
Hello, I studied mechanical engineering in college and was wondering if anyone had advice for transitioning to a possible job at a tech company.
Please no. Do a job in ur field. Nobody will offer position in GM as mechanical engineer if i watch youtube video and udemy courses so no more other branch people here.
Atlassian has a fair point. If I made a post like yours but with the jobs reversed (want to go into MechEng with only CS background), I'd be laughed out of the room. Yet everyone with a degree in xyz thinks it will be super easy to pivot into tech.
You're trippin'. People can transition into Software Engineering without a degree in it because of how accessible it is. You can code on any laptop. You can't do mechanical design on any laptop and even if you do, how will you show your design works? You need at least a 3D printer to show your design will work depending on what it is. I can become a software engineer because building robust websites and applications is pretty much free with an internet connection. Mechanical engineering isn't cheap to learn. Software is.
