I actually just joined Meta and I am still going through the team selection process.

After about two months of my onsite interview, the Microsoft recruiter suddenly re-contacted me with their offer decision...M was originally my first choice as I do care about WLB, but they put me on waiting list during my offer decision time and I picked Meta after struggling between wlb and brand name.

Now, I am given the choices again. However, things seem complicated as it might be unethical to leave in such short time.

Meta DSA IC4 258k+25k signon (1year) +40k relocation
Microsoft Sr DS 63 262k+80k signon (total for 2 years) +relo (unknown like 10k?)

How will you choose? Reason?

If you come from Meta or Microsoft, especially DS roles, can you give some description about your real life there?

If you leave so soon youโ€™ll have to pay back your sign on bonus. Probably better to spend the year at meta and then think about whether youโ€™d rather be at msft. This way you wonโ€™t have weird gaps on your resume or have to answer awkward questions about your short tenure.

Iโ€™m also new. 1 month so far with my team. The expectations at the start are really not very high.

Honestly I have been working a lot - mostly on reading and learning about internal systems. Thereโ€™s no one telling me to go faster, but I dislike the feeling of not being able to contribute meaningfully for the first 3-6 months so Iโ€™m trying to accelerate it myself.

I think Iโ€™ve been doing well to become productive so people from the wider team sometimes forget that Iโ€™m new. In situations where I feel like expectations are too high, I just push back gently and say I havenโ€™t had a chance to figure out how we do that here but I will add it to my list of things to learn as a newbie
