I have my on-site next week and I know it’s a long shot but is there any way to know what kind of questions / topics I’m gonna have in the Sys and ML design rounds?

There’s so many topics to cover that I’m freaking out and would like to focus in the key areas in the last week. Any ideas?

Two cases to consider, a) you are an MLE that has to deal with design issues and have built systems from scratch to scale from both an ML and a systems point of view b) you are not. If you are b I would try to get the interview changed - but failing that meta have provided lots of material, and you can find a tonne of examples on blind. Have a look and good luck! Ps I am doing the final rounds with meta for E6 ML SWE and I have pushed it back quite a bit and I am more in the camp a, but my leetcode kungfu needs some prep (as with the other stuff!)

E6 was decided after the EM screen - but my recruiter said that most people level out at E5. We shall see.

  • I had my first call with meta yesterday for a MLE position. I have zero experience in system design (I was doing ML research). How much time I can ask to prepare ? I have to revise leetcode, machine learning and learn system design

I would say speak to your recruiter - mine said they can take as long as it takes for you to get prepared. That being said there is always a risk that the positions will be filled by then. I have given myself 2 months, but I would say if you are coming from ml research they may focus more on that than the applied side - I would look at recommender systems and ranking or ad Tech side of things. Leetcode depending on where you are coming from it will vary. System design is also tough (not impossible) to get done in 2 months. But I am also dealing with Ml systems design pretty much every week (still PoC) and I have been an MLOps and ML strategy consultant so the Applied Ml and system design could be closer to my finger tips. Have a look around on this site and Glassdoor, blog posts etc.
