Meta or Linkedin: what are the differences?

Mar 16 13 Comments

First time going to FAANG, what are differences in benefits, wlb, promotions, stress, $$$ etc.

FB: 180k + 70k signon + 400k/4 stocks

Linkedin: 195k + 50k + 330k/4

NYC location

Similar title, and salary is kinda same after first year so ignoring compensation... which one would you join personally and why?

I'd like to be happy and not stressed, do cool stuff but not be on call ever, mover toward better titles, and enjoy benefits other than salary..

With FB stocks going down, is the company gonna get worse?

I have both offers and haven't started at either one yet

  • LinkedIn hands down - we are doing amazing things here and good WLB. And we are much better positioned with Microsoft on the side as compared to Meta.

  • Linkedin:
    Amazing WLB
    Old tech stack
    Horrible refreshers
    Good culture
    FB:
    Bad WLB
    Faster promo/career growth
Can be on a really interesting tech stack
    Amazing Refreshers
    Okay culture (good engineering culture?)

LinkedIn benefits are comparable to Facebook: similar 401k match, similar health benefits, free food etc.

LinkedIn WLB is (generally) better than Facebook. Yeah it's team dependent, but you'll generally find that LinkedIn it's more laid back.

LinkedIn refreshers are not great unless you get the high perf ratings. Facebook gives good refreshers even for "meets all" rating.

Developer experience and velocity is better at Facebook than LinkedIn. The home grown tools and mix of on-prem and azure makes it hard to develop fast at LinkedIn.

You said this was in NYC so you're restricted to only few specific teams with both LinkedIn and FB. You may want to check about team specific culture in this case.
