Whats the difference between core infra and product infra?

I was told that product infra works on scaling products e.g. Instagram infra or WhatsApp infra where as core infra is about stuff like networking and storage

Fast promo to…? You can get to E5 faster on product teams but good luck finding scope to go any higher. Infra is better for higher levels

Is Infra also good for E4? I'm joining as an E4 and would like to get promoted to E5 within ~ 2 years or at least within 33 months. I'm not in any particular rush. I don't know if it's easier to deliver impact on prod teams.

Doesn’t really matter since calibrations are done by comparing similar peer groups. What this means is that even though comp and respect is the same regardless of what type of PM you are, infra PMs are compared against other infra PMs and product PMs vs other product PMs.

At the end of the day, what matters more is your ability to make impact and how you and your manager can work together to put a compelling package during PSC.

So If you’re optimizing for fast promo, lean on your strengths. Quick pointers:
    1. Do you thrive in product or eng driven cultures?
    2. Are you good at A/B testing to figure out the right thing to build for millions or better at engaging with fewer internal customers to drive roadmap?
    3. Product has higher shipping frequency with smaller scope(more PMs) and infra has longer roadmap timelines but scope can easily be very big(less PMs)
    4. Much more…
