What do you think the Fed will do tomorrow?
I'd love to dedicate my career into helping humanity to reach other planets, at least as much as my lifespan allows it. Given my nationality, my plan is to prepare to get a great offer from a FAANG, so that my stay in the USA is as great as possible while I get the green card/citizenship. What do you think? Is this even a feasible plan? I know that SpaceX has positions that only require the green card to apply to them but I'm not sure if the government would have additional restrictions. Would it be better to pursue this in Europe? I've seen that I can work as a contractor for some company that works with the ESA (same thing in America but for NASA,) but I'd prefer to work as a direct employee. I've no idea about this in Asia or other continents. TC: 🥜 #engineering #software #spacex #nasa #europeanspaceagency #blueorigin
You don’t do rocket science because you have a green card. You do rocket science because you dominate your math class and physics class so easily since 14. So if you are asking this question, I suggest you to not embarrass yourself and give the seat to someone else who finishes their PhD at 25.
Congrats. You just won dumbest comment.
It's unclear whether you are being sarcastic or a jerk !
Fellow Mexican in FAANG here. I recommend getting into Microsoft first. Easier than FAANG to get in and awesome immigration wise. You’ll get a GC in 1-2 years and then you can move to wherever you want. 👍
Yeah, a lot of friends are there. The only thing that doesn't motivate me to go to Microsoft are the salaries compared to other companies. But if it's my only offer, I'll go for it! Can one really get a GC that fast? I thought I'd have to wait at least 5 years 🤔
if you are not in some special situation (for example not having a degree at the time of being hired which is not uncommon for college hires), Microsoft will start the GC process right away. The GC process for Mexicans (unlike Indians who have a 10+ year wait time) usually takes 1-2 years if everything goes smoothly. So 1-2 years is not unrealistic at all. However, there are things that can delay the process. For example, your case can be selected to be audited, the PERM labor certification step can actually fail or sometimes Microsoft is forced to suspend new applications after having laid off a significant number of employees.
Green card is plenty at SpaceX.
Aerospace SWE is underpaid compared to FANG SWE. The plan may work but you may nose dive in TC going from FANG to SpaceX
I'm aware of that. I'm aiming FAANG at the beginning for great TC and stocks that grow over time, so I don't have to worry about money that much. But we'll see, first I need to crack some interviews.
Solid plan. Now start Leetcoding
