I’m a L6 TPM at Amazon being put up for L7 in Q3. My base is 149K, TCT is 220K this year and 280K next year without promotion. Got a Principal PM 65 offer from MSFT. Base: 190K Stock: 175K vesting over 4 yrs Signing bonus: 50K Thoughts on the MSFT offer? Am I likely to successfully negotiate a higher signing bonus- what is the upper bound? I expect the AMZ L7 promo would bump my base by 10% and I’d get more stock but not beat the MSFT offer

Sweet. My goal is to reach L7. I used to be at the L5 pay band in a previous career as a non-technical manager. After a career change, I’m now in the L4 pay band. Maybe I should’ve taken the Ops Mgr position in FC instead of SE apprentice. 🤦🏻♂️

Know a few L7s that interviewed for L66, but got downleveled and came in at L65. It depends.
I made the jump from AWS L6 with a 280k TC to L65 in MSFT with 350k TC so you can definitely ask for more.

This doesn't seem worth it. Your comp will drop next year and MSFT 65 is lower in scope than Amazon L7, in the general sense. So don't give up your promo track for a modest, one time bump in comp this year that will result in a comp dropoff next year, unless you just hate your current role. Go for 66 or 67 at Microsoft after functioning as an L7 for a bit at Amazon.
I thought this initially too. But I think the bonus structure is better at MSFT than AMZ. Yesterday got these #’s from a friend who is a 65 mgr currently: Avg performer -annual merit increase on base 2.3% -annual stock award $36K -annual cash bonus target, 20% of base (36K) Top tier performer: -annual merit increase on base 4% -annual stock award up to $72K -annual cash bonus up to 40% of base ($76k)
Comparing at AMZ L6, last year I was top tier and got a 3% base increase and $145K in stock vesting over 2 years. It’s not tenable to stay TT at AMZ every year so it seems like MSFT is a better bet Thoughts?
Microsoft offer is low. I was offered 225K stocks and 100k sign on at L62.
Can u go back and negotiate with msft after L7 promo?
Not for this specific role. AMZ promo and comp won’t lock until late Sept
