I recently received an offer from Microsoft and accepted it. It’s been 13 days and the hire right background check still shows a blue check mark and the ‘gap standard’ is yellow flagged. I briefly worked on a research project on the side in my school and I’ve listed it as work experience. It’s started off as course work, then independent contract and then voluntary. This was in parallel to my main job. I’ve grouped all of this and listed this as one ‘experience’ in my resume but I divided it into course work, then independent contract and then voluntary sections for background check. The contract part of that section is verified but the unpaid part isn’t. The report says ‘Closed - Not verified per guidelines’ Is this going to be a problem? Should I consider an alternate offer? Should I be worried? TC: 140k #backgroundcheck #hireright #onboarding
You should reach out to them and explain, it doesn’t usually take this long. I doubt they’ll rescind your offer though
I did try reaching out to them. I asked them if they need anything from me and that I’m happy to provide any referral if needed and they keep giving me boilerplate ‘we’ll reach out to you when we have more info’ type responses. Not sure how to proceed. I have another offer that expires this Friday and I know they don’t have a problem with this since we spoke about it. I’m considering just accepting that as backup. Is that wise?
What do you plan to do if the background check clears? Will you renege on that other company? It does say it’s possible the check could take two weeks so HireRight could just be waiting for whoever to approve it. This is a tough situation. Do you strongly prefer Microsoft over the other offer? If so I’d wait I still don’t think they’re going to rescind your offer over this. I don’t know if you reached out to HireRight directly or the recruiter but I would try to reach out to whichever you didn’t if you can. I had to contact HireRight about one of my past employers being unresponsive and they cleared it quickly after that
Yeah, unpleasant as it is, I think reneging is the only option? I REALLY don’t want to work for my current company so I can’t afford to have this offer slip through and be stuck without any offer. I do prefer Microsoft over the other one. I think this one is pending with “Microsoft internal review” as of now
Don't worry. They will clear you.
Hey OP we are on the same boat.. Did they provide you 8-15 business days for their turnaround time too? I’m getting anxious…
They said 2 weeks from what I remember. Looks like their background check team is on vacation or something. I saw at least one other post with 2-3 other people reporting the same thing in the past 2-3 days
My wife’s bgc only took her 2 days but from another employer and a different bgc provider. it seems like hireright does real penetration testing on our profile lol. btw congratulations
Congrats to you too. Yeah, I started racking my brains for everything I’ve ever done in my life lol
Just cleared the background check. Hope yours cleared too
Great! Still waiting hopefully I get mine next week.
Glad it cleared in time!!
I can’t imagine this would be an issue and you couldn’t clarify it to the recruiter/interviewer. (Microsoft needs your labor more than you need them.)
